<hi style=afpcap>An early production C-119B was extensively modified into the XC-120 Pack Plane consisting of the wings, tail unit and flight deck of the C-119 with a detachable lower component which was in effect a cargo carrying pod. The aircraft was capable of flight with or without the pod fitted, although its rate of climb was considerably better when the pod was not attached. The design was experimental and no production versions were built. </hi>
